Preventive and Diagnostic

As your partner in your oral health, we are not here to dictate to you – we are here to inform and inspire you. Your smile is one of your most precious resources and we want to help you bring it to life with our creative and skillful approach to dentistry. That means getting to know you and your mouth personally. Your oral health habits and health history play an important role in building our long-term relationship.

An essential part of your experience with us is our comprehensive exam – an exam that is unlike any you have experienced. Our examination is not limited to only your teeth but takes into consideration your overall health!

Our unique comprehensive exam includes:

  • Preclinical interview to address any immediate concerns and expectations.
  • Facial symmetry analysis to evaluate muscle activity and esthetics.
  • Hard tissue exam (teeth)
  • Soft tissue exam (gums)
  • Periodontal exam
  • TMJ & occlusion (jaw joint + neuromuscular evaluation)
  • Oral cancer exam including head and neck exam
  • Intraoral photography
  • Medical and dental history review
  • Dental x-ray interpretation
  • Study models when indicated

In addition, we also consider your bite at every visit. Keeping an eye on TMJ, headaches and facial pain – along with your teeth – allows us to improve every aspect of your oral health. Muscle Relaxation Splint Therapy and Occlusal Equilibration can relieve even the most painful symptoms, while restoring absolute harmony to our patients’ bites.

We are precise and honest when discussing treatment options and we will always provide full disclosure of where you are on the health scale. A good rule is to avoid starting any treatment until the result you want can be clearly visualized. This knowledge allows us to educate and empower you!

Many people clench and grind their teeth at night without ever knowing they do it. If we see signs of wear and cracking or receding gums and abfractions, we will recommend a custom made occlusal mouth guard and possibly an equilibration.

These comfortable mouth guards can protect your investment in dental work from damage, protect you from developing jaw joint dysfunction and help keep your facial muscles relaxed at night and prevent headaches by decreasing muscle headache pain .

Occlusal Equilibration

Occlusal Equilibration or Bite adjustment is a delicate procedure that requires extreme skill and trained hand eye coordination that can help prevent further damage of the oral environment.

Equilibration adjusts your teeth to create simultaneous equal intensity pressure on all your teeth when biting. There should be no momentary forces detected on any particular tooth when biting. To equilibrate your bite, Dr. Bellafiore will first take impressions and a special neuromuscular bite recording which will be carefully studied to determine areas that may need adjustment. This is called the trial equilibration which is performed prior to any bite adjustments to ensure precision with the actual equilibration. When completed, you will experience a well balanced bite that will even sound solid when tapping your teeth together. This procedure has solved many of our patients problems and is usually performed in two visits.Your improved bite will allow your jaw joints to hinge in a healthy state, facial muscles will relax and the teeth will fully meet at there proper position.

The result? Ideal function in movement , protected bite and no more pain!

Occlusal Splint

To help prevent nighttime tooth clenching and grinding, we offer a specially designed neuromuscular mouth guard called an occlusal splint. These custom designed mouth guards reduce the damage to your teeth, protect your dental work and help relieve your TMJ pain by relaxing hyperactive muscles. The more you wear your appliance, the more you protect your teeth – and the better you feel! We have consistently resolved headache pain with this proven technique.

Though we usually recommend the freedom, comfort and bone saving support of dental implants, we do also offer cosmetically designed tooth supported dental bridges.

A dental bridge is a natural-looking restoration that replaces missing teeth without the use of a denture or dental implant. The replacement tooth or teeth are permanently attached to existing teeth and secured with a bonding cement. This may be a better option than a removable device.

Our bridges keep your remaining teeth from shifting and keep you looking better and feeling better, too. We also offer metal free bridges.

Tooth-colored fillings are the most lifelike material used to fill cavities. Composite fillings can be done in one visit. Once the tooth has been restored with composite material, it is then hardened with state of the art light curing technology.
Our dental implants offer unparalleled support and comfort so that you can eat, speak and smile as nature intended.
Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth. Dental implants, which are placed in the jawbone, are small anchors made of a biocompatible metal called titanium. The anchors begin to fuse with the bone over the course of a few months. After the fusing process, known as osseointegration, abutment posts are inserted into the anchors to allow for the permanent attachment of the replacement teeth.

We live in a fast-paced, competitive city – and missing teeth can feel like the end of the world. Edentulousness can rob your confidence, make eating an inconvenient misery and completely ruin your social life.

Helping people find comfort and relief that not only feels great, but looks great too, is one of the reasons Dr. Bellafiore started practicing dentistry in the first place and his approach to creating dentures is no different.

We offer both cosmetic and implant supported neuromuscular dentures for the ultimate in comfort, beauty and function.

Our cosmetic dentures are precision-created to fit your face and your bite – better than most traditional dentures, while our implant-supported dentures replace a full arch in a “snap.” These dentures are our supreme choice for discriminating patients who don’t want to deal with adhesives or any possibility of slippage or pinching. They are so comfortable and look so natural in your smile that even you may forget they aren’t your own teeth!

Your tooth hurts. A lot. What should you do? Call Dr. Bellafiore!

Even if your tooth doesn’t hurt, if it is discolored or damaged, your tooth may be in trouble. If your tooth has an abscess, infection at the root or has become so painful you can’t tolerate it, you have two choices – remove the tooth or perform a root canal. Most of our patients are very happy to choose a root canal to increase their chances of saving their tooth.
Root canal therapy involves cleaning and disinfecting the nerve canal. After the canal is thoroughly cleaned and no infected matter remains, we carefully seal the canal to keep out bacteria and place a crown to restore your tooth to strength and beauty.

Your natural tooth is saved and your pain is relieved! What could be better?

Cosmetic dental bonding offers dramatic results by restoring teeth with a tooth-colored material in order to maintain a natural appearance. In order to bond a tooth, tooth colored material is added to the tooth to build it up.

Because it is completed entirely by hand, it requires an artistic touch and creative eye to create a bonded surface that looks like Mother Nature put it there herself.

Don’t let minor imperfections in your smile bother you any longer – talk to Dr. Bellafiore about finding your most beautiful smile with the benefits of dental bonding.

An inlay or onlay is a partial crown restoration that can be placed when there is not sufficient tooth structure to support a filling, but not quite large enough to require a crown. Our inlays and onlays are created with porcelain to restore, repair and beautify your smile.

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical procedure used to treat gum disease. During the scaling process, specialized dental instruments are used to remove dental plaque and calculus from beneath the gums. Planing is the procedure used to smooth the tooth’s root after the scaling process. Root planing helps the gums heal and reattach themselves to a cleaner and smoother root surface.
Your gums are a very important part of your smile, it is the frame for the picture which are the teeth– and if they become unhealthy or infected, it can affect much more than your teeth. It has also been linked to serious health problems such as heart diseases, poor circulation leading to diabetic concerns, strokes, and even certain types of cancer. When we treat periodontal disease, our concern is for your overall health, not just your teeth.

We will begin with a deep-cleaning method called scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar from teeth above and below the gum line. This is usually supplemented by laser gum therapy in which we use a soft-tissue laser to remove diseased tissue and eradicate bacteria. We also use antibiotic therapy, Arestin, an antibiotic placed inside the infected gum pockets in order to kill periodontal bacteria. Our first approach is always non surgical and often results in less discomfort and healthy gums. Once the source of infection has been removed, your gums will begin to heal, and tighten around your teeth. Periodontal maintenance recare (cleanings, scaling) to be determined by both our patient as well as our observation, is strongly recommended and will help keep the disease process in remission.

There are so many reasons people feel self-conscious about their smiles. Everyone wants a bright, sparkling, expressive smile – and sometimes all that is standing between you and the smile of your dreams is a little bit of gum tissue! Gum overgrowth or a gummy smile is a very common problem and can be caused by anything from genetics to blood pressure medication. Fortunately, Dr. Bellafiore has a very simple solution – gum recontouring!

Dr. Bellafiore will sculpt and perfect your gum line using the innovation of a soft tissue laser with minimized invasiveness and rapid healing. The laser heals as it works, reducing pain, bleeding and the need for sutures. It is gum recontouring at its finest! The process is so fast and easy leaving you with more beautiful, white tooth surface showing, for a whiter and friendlier smile – in no time!

We pride ourselves in losing very few teeth – but on occasion, we find that a tooth is too damaged or decayed, or periodontal disease has just progressed too far to save the tooth. When this happens, a tooth extraction can protect your health and stop your discomfort.

Once we have decided together that a tooth extraction is the best choice, we also decide on pain control methods. Dr. Bellafiore offers sedation dentistry with oral sedation and Nitrous Oxide.

Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous Oxide, sometimes referred to as “laughing gas,” is an effective and safe sedation agent that is inhaled through a mask that fits over the nose to help patients relax. Mixed with oxygen, nitrous oxide allows the patient to breathe normally through the nose. The effects of the sedation will be felt within just a few minutes and may be experienced as a light-headed feeling or a tingling or heaviness in the arms and legs. Ultimately, patients should feel comfortable and calm. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after the small mask is removed. Talk to Dr. Bellafiore about whether nitrous oxide would be a good option for you.

Conscious Oral Sedation is an alternative minimal sedation that allows patients to remain awake but relaxed. For people who have a fear of dental procedures, conscious sedation may take away some of the anxiety. Under the medication, patients may feel very drowsy or even fall asleep, but will not become unconscious. Dr. Bellafiore will combine the use of oral sedation along with a local anesthetic so you have little to no discomfort. Patients should plan to have someone bring you to the appointment and be available to drive them home following treatment.
